VINOY CLUB REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE

The Vinoy’s transformation has evolved from planning stages to reality and is well underway – ushering in an all-new level of luxury at the resort. We are proud that the design plans honor our heritage, prestige, history and environment while simultaneously incorporating modern design, luxury, technology and amenities. We are thrilled to share the following outline for the full vision of The Vinoy Renaissance Resort and Golf Club.

  • Phase 1: Snell Isle
    • As we continue our re-imagination of our Snell Isle offerings, we are excited to announce the mens & ladies locker room and new ladies and gentleman's restrooms have re-opened earlier this year! These locker rooms showcase the air of elegance and contemporary luxury that is to come through out the Vinoy. The Vinoy Club Golf Grill and Swimming Pool will begin its new legacy of great foods, sprits, and fun memories this summer.

The enhancement in comfort and richness of the Snell Isle area will come to fruition in a variety of new amenities, each infused with soft touches and details evocative of the grandeur of the 1920s.

      These enhancements include:

      • A dining experience reminiscent of speakeasy-era exclusivity, The Vinoy Club Grill on Snell Isle will be for members and resort guests only. The fully upgraded and significantly expanded restaurant will provide extended views of the golf course and sunset pool area, as well as an enlarged, covered terrace and exterior lounge.
      • Our two-story men’s locker that is the epitome of taste and refined luxury. Complete with a grand lounge area, the locker room features a fully stocked bar, tables and sumptuous leather seating.
      • An expanded women's locker room that exudes an elegant, vintage-modern vibe. Hints of blue are complemented by touches of brass and marble, giving the space a sense of whimsy and contemporary luxury.
      • A fully redesigned and enlarged resort-style pool with separate kid-friendly Splash Zone.
      • A posh, Art Deco-inspired pool surrounded by features including sofa groups, intimate lounge areas, fire pits and more. With a resort chic vibe, this lounge area uses pops of green, black and white textiles and natural materials such as river stone and coral stone tile.
      • Ongoing Golf Course enhancements throughout the year designed to:
        • Improve privacy by separating the holes.
        • Enlarge tee complexes to provide better turf.
        • Improve drainage to increase playability.
      • An exciting and all new food and beverage Clark's Snack Bar (as in Clark Bar - and yes, we will feature that candy bar and its ingredients) that will be accessible to golfers at the turn, as well as our members and guests relaxing by the Sunset Pool.  The Clark family owned the Golf Course for 16 years from 1932 to 1948.  This authentic naming strategy, true to our history, is found throughout our resort.

      • Fun Facts:  The old Sunset Pool had a surface area of 968 sq. ft. or 28,703 gallons.  The new pool is larger and deeper.  The surface area is 1,453 sq. ft. or 48,017 gallons.  Last year there were about 25 lounge chairs at the pool.  There will be 62 chaises and a total of 175 pieces of furniture when we re-open!
The Snell Isle location will also boast a new pavilion structure and a repositioned parking area, both started construction on June 18, 2017. The area’s arrival and bag-drop experience will be revamped for you and your guests, and promises better traffic flow, a convenient location, new covered parking for cart staging and more.

  • Phase 2: Main Resort
    • We have refined the redevelopment plans for the main resort and have created a draft timeline for construction. The updated plans are outlined below:

      New Paul's Landing Restaurant:

      Re-creation started February 6, 2017!
Located on the resort’s Esplanade Deck, the restaurant will feature glass walls offering spectacular, uninterrupted views of the bay, downtown St. Petersburg and the Vinoy swimming pool. It is a large 6,000 sq. ft. footprint. When it opens at the beginning of 2018, it will boast over 200 seasts. Paul's Landing will have multiple seating options from high-top tables, communal tables, a 16-seat dining counter and bar, as well as traditional indoor and outdoor seating.

Just beyond the deck, the enhanced Esplanade Event Lawn will be upgraded with new grass, paved areas, plush seating and fire pits to create the ideal location for hosting events – from milestone celebrations to intimate evenings under the stars with friends and family.

      Fitness:

The new location for our Fitness Center will be a raised facility where the current parking ramp comes down from our leveled parking garage and over the uncovered parking spots by tennis courts #5 and #6.  Cars will be able to drive under the new structure. Today's fitness is 7,500 sq. ft. whereas the new one will be 16,000 sq. ft.  The functionality of the new fitness facility will remain essentially the same as the previous design featuring state-of the art equipment, group fitness areas, cycling studio, personal training space, multi-use room, a juice bar and expanded locker rooms and wet area.  As the plans continue to develop, more details will be available to describe the improved functionality, modern design and enhanced member benefits.  Best yet, construction is slated to begin this summer 2017.

      Parking Garage and Tennis:

Ownership remains committed to bringing the full redevelopment to fruition by building an expanded parking garage with new tennis courts, tennis shop, restroom, viewing and social areas all co-located on top of the new structure.  The location of the new building will be where the existing tennis courts #5-12 currently reside.  This part of the grand plan requires a referendum approval by the residents of St. Petersburg in the November 2017 election.

A huge side benefit of this part of the expansion is that The Vinoy will help to relieve much of the street parking that occurs when large public and private events are hosted in our parks and resort.

By way of history, there was a land swap between the City and The Vinoy that enabled the Downtown Waterfront Park System to be completed.  An outcome of that "swapped" portion of land is that it is now encumbered and requires voter approval for its use to be modified.  The Vinoy has always enjoyed a collaborative relationship with the city and our neighbors evidenced all the way back to 1992 when the original referendum to restore The Vinoy was granted and then by the residents' approval in a 1997 referendum to build the Palm Court Ballroom and more recently in 2007, residents approved a referendum to build a new spa facility.

Now, in 2017, we will be asking residents for approval to build a one-story parking garage adding 270 parking spots with 8 tennis courts on top.  Aesthetically, it will be just like the Palm Court Parking Garage with Tennis Courts #1-4 on top.  It does not use tax payer money nor does it expand or alter the current Vinoy facility footprint.  This pending referendum will simply grant permission to build, and we look forward to the same collaborative spirit in November.

      Guest Room Tower:

One of the most valued extra perks of being a Vinoy Club Member is that you will be able to enjoy significant discounts on Resort room rates. You will be excited to know all rooms in the guest room tower will be renovated (July-October 2017) with an all-new modern design. The main building guest rooms are scheduled to be done in the summer of 2018.

      New Spa

      Re-creation to begin early 2018!

As part of the redevelopment, our resort spa will be relocated to the current site of Alfresco’s and expanded from 2,000 square feet to 9,000 square feet. Extending beyond the standard resort spa, this enhanced facility promises a residential atmosphere with an ambiance entirely its own. Filled with Floridian accents and earthy finishes, such as lush tranquility gardens and water features, the Spa will provide the optimal atmosphere for relaxation, healing and renewal.

Inside, the re-imagined spa will be ideal for private parties and will include an all-new wet area, dedicated locker rooms and updated treatment rooms/relaxation spaces. The new facility is set to open in fall of 2018.
